JC & JD

In the early 1990's a fellow guitarist and good friend of the family named JD Barr joined together with Jay Curtis forming a small duet called " Kickin' Back " The two performed at several small functions including private parties, small rodeos and fairs, and even at a tractor show or two. They became known and loved by many.
Eventually the two decided they should buy more equipment and start a full blown band, equipped with lead guitar, bass guitar drums etc. then they could play at even larger events for more people. Jay Curtis then recruited some members of his family such as his youngest brother and talented Bass player "Jake the snake" along with another younger brother who knows rhythm and timing like no other "Jimmy James Randall" as JC likes to call him. Knowing they needed a little distorted electric guitar to add to the style they we're beginning to make their own, JC also brought in his father "Poppa Lex". A talented guitarist and song writer who had been a member in several different rock bands through out his life. Last but not least the group knew that no band is complete without a lead guitarist, someone who could fill in those blank spots between versus. So, they brought in their cousin "Kellen (killeroo) Sevey" In the eyes of Jay Curtis and his family, Kellen is more than their cousin, he is their little brother. Together the group now calling themselves "Jay Curtis and Western Justice" set out to write songs that we're best explained who they we're inside and out. They had a sound that was truly unique, that captured the attention of all age groups. But then, as with many great bands. As quickly as the group was put together, it started to come undone. JD Barr was beginning to tire easily. His body was already weakened by the cancer he had as a child. He simply could not go on anymore so he bowed out of the band. Then shortly afterward JD was hospitalized with congestive heart failure, and died still a young man in his 30's.   One by one the band came unraveled. Then in no time, "Kickin' Back" then "Jay Curtis and Western Justice" we're both memory's filled with the talent and deep friendship of JD Barr.

After a break from music that lasted about two years, Jay Curtis took his guitar which he had not touched for so long and began to play again. Mainly for friends and family. Once in awhile he would get together with his brother Jake, along with his father Lex and sometimes his very talented brother-in-law Darren Lewis and Darren's brother Tom who many know as "Tomster", and would play music together for hours. JC began to feel the fire inside again, missing how it felt to play for a crowd.
Then one night standing by the fire pit behind his home tipping a cold one with two of his life time friends, Jay Curtis hit them up with an idea that actually started weeks prior by his brother "Jake the snake". He knew both these friends of his, Brian and David Amlin had some music back-ground so he hit them up with the idea of starting another band which would include them. It didn't take to much talk and both the Amlin brothers we're on board. From that point they had recruited key board player "Wild Bill" Amlin, father to Brian and David, and of course JC's brothers Randall (drummer) and Jake (Bass player) and of course Darren Lewis (lead guitarist) Together the talent began to blossom and "Jay Curtis and WesternOutlaw" was born.

Since the beginning of "Jay Curtis and WesternOutlaw" there was many ups and downs. Members would come and go, the group would take long breaks between shows. But every time they would get back together the talent and the connection between them was so strong that it would be as if they had never parted. Eventually JC recruited Karen Peterson a very talented song writer and singer with a beautiful voice. Jay Curtis knew Karen from years before when he tried to join her band (once he decided to get back into music) as a rhythm guitarist and a back up singer. But the band leader decided Jay was to serious for what they we're interested in. Also brought in to the band was William Amlin son of David to play the Bass after "Jake the snake" bowed out do to some health problems of his own. For the first time in a very long time, Jay Curtis feels like he is complete once again playing his music and even better, being able to perform with his family and close Friends.
